Kevin Hart of 'Night School' in Intense Pain after Reportedly Suffering 3 Spinal Fractures, Will Require Weeks of Rehab
Recent updates on the Kevin Hart horror car crash reveal that the comedian is in intense pain after getting surgery to correct three spinal fractures sustained in the accident.
Hart, 40, had successful surgery on Sunday night, but he reportedly has a long way to go in recovering fully from his “major back injuries.”
According to TMZ sources, doctors fused Hart’s spinal fractures -- two in the thoracic section and one in the lumbar -- but he remains in pain and has to be heavily medicated.
Still To Come: Recently released 911 calls provide more details about the moments following the crash
The outlet notes, however, that Hart is lucky that doctors expect him to make a full recovery since lumbar fractures often result in lifelong effects ranging from difficulties in walking to partial paralysis of the arms or legs.
Sources close to the situation earlier told TMZ that Hart would likely be released from the hospital by the end of the week. The weeks following will, however, include extensive physical therapy and follow-up doctors’ appointments.
Just before 1 am on Sunday, Hart and two pals Jared Black and Rebecca Broxterman were in his vintage Plymouth Barracuda when the vehicle veered off Malibu’s Mulholland Highway into a ditch.
Black, who was driving, and Broxterman, his fiancée who is also a personal trainer for Hart’s wife Eniko, were trapped in the car. Hart initially went to his nearby residence to seek medical help but was eventually transported to a hospital.
Recently released 911 calls provide more details about the moments following the crash. In one call obtained by E! News, a witness told the operator the vehicle’s roof appeared to be crushed and the door smashed.
The caller further noted in the audio that he could see two individuals; that they were "conscious" but "scared because they're stuck in there."
In a separate 911 call obtained by TODAY, an unidentified female calling from Hart’s residence told the dispatcher, “I need someone to come get him.”
Still To Come: Investigators are reportedly looking into excessive speed as a probable cause
“I don’t know what happened. He’s just here. He’s not coherent at all. He can’t move,” the caller added before explaining that the incident occurred “20 minutes ago. … outside of our gated community.”
Hart, who was reported to have suffered "major back injuries" was eventually taken to Northridge Hospital, per E! News. Black, 28, who suffered similar injuries as Hart, was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center but his current condition remains unknown. Meanwhile, Broxterman, 31, "suffered only complaint of pain."
Get well soon, Kevin Hart!
