Dogs have proven time and again that they are indeed man's best friend, or in this case, a girl's best friend. If this girl's dog wasn't with her, she might have been kidnapped.
The 10-year-old girl from Woodbridge, Virginia was walking her dog on July 28, 2017, when an unknown man tried to grab her. The attack took place at 3:50 p.m.
As reported by Relay Hero, the dog realized danger was afoot and attack the man. The faithful pup bit the man's arm, and the assailant ran off.
The Prince William County Police Department dispatched a K-9 unit to search the area, but the suspect had already fled. No arrests were made, and thankfully the young girl wasn't injured.
Nevertheless, the authorities continued their investigation and asked the community to be on the lookout for a Hispanic male, estimated to be 5'3" and weighing 145lbs.
They posted on their Facebook page that the assailant was thin, had short brown hair and a goatee. He was wearing a white striped shirt and light colored pants on the day of the attack.
The Facebook post soon generated comments and likes, and members of the community expressed their thanks. Many felt that the dog deserved a treat for his good deed.
Susie Krause said the dog was wonderful, and that it was sad for the young girl to go through such an ordeal. Peggy Lenard expressed her wishes that the Police Department find and the arrest the kidnapper.
DeAnne Needham hoped that the dog had 'broke the skin when he bit him,' and Stephanie Nitschke was just glad that the girl was safe. She found it funny that the news report failed to mention the breed of the dog.
As it turned out, the dog was a pit bull, a breed who has a bad reputation for being violent. In reality, they are loving and protective animals and their bad reputation stem from people abusing them and training them as fighter dogs.
Melissa Duffie agreed with Stephanie, saying 'God forbid a pit bull get[s] praised for something right.'
