Harry’s well-intentioned comment about Markle becoming part of his family fueled the anger of the actress’ estranged half-sister, Samantha.
Prince Harry was invited to guest edit a BBC Radio 4’s program on December 27, 2017, just after his soon-to-be wife spent her first Christmas with the royal family as she starts getting used to what her new life is going to be, and he made some comments about the recent days that were considered offensive by a certain individual, as reported by Inquisitr.
“We had great fun staying with my brother and sister-in-law and running round with the kids. Christmas was fantastic(…)she’s getting in there and it's the family I suppose that she's never had."
-Prince Harry, BBC Radio 4, December 27, 2017.
Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha Grant, 53, reacted to Harry’s innocent slip with a series of tweets in which she apparently showed she took offense with Harry’s comments, that made Markle appear as an orphan.
Grant, who started to tweet negative things about her half-sister -with whom she admits not having talked in the last three years- since the engagement between Markle and Harry, rushed to respond to the Prince’s insinuations reminding him of Markle’s family.
“She has a large family who were there for her. No one was estranged, she was just too busy.”
-Samantha Grant, Twitter, December 2017.
In the past, Grant has claimed that it was Markle who seemed to have cut ties with her past and her family since she found success in Hollywood, accusing her in one occasion of not helping her father financially.
Neither Markle nor Prince Harry made any comments about Grant’s series of confronting posts and declarations to the media, but Grant has recently backtracked on the unpleasant things she said, including her alleged dislike for Harry’s suggestion that Markle didn’t have a family of her own.
She ultimately apologized publicly to her half-sister in a sudden switch of attitude and has expressed how much she would like to be invited to the royal wedding, to be celebrated on May 2018.
