For Metz, the turning point wasn't about chasing a smaller number on the scale — it was about tuning out the noise and putting her long-term health first. Now, the actress is sharing exactly what changed her mind.

Chrissy Metz is opening up about using a GLP-1 drug after being initially skeptical about the weight loss method. The "This Is Us" star, 45, says the decision truly came down to just wanting to take care of herself.

"I'm not getting any younger," Metz said in an interview with People. "I'm in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father, and I felt like I've tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me."

The "Hunting Wives" actress admitted she'd been wary of GLP-1s for years, convinced they either wouldn't work for her or would bring on brutal side effects. So far, though, her experience has been a pleasant surprise.

"It's been great!" she shared. "I've enjoyed the benefits that I didn't think that would come, because I was very skeptical. I was like, 'I'm not taking this medication. I don't wanna do this. It's not gonna work for me.' You know, all the things."

"But when I realized food noise was really a thing, that consumed a lot of my head space, I was like, 'Oh,'" she continued, adding that it felt good to "not be obsessing" about her next meal "every minute," even as she's consuming one.

"I just vilified food for so long because I was taught that it was bad, and you shouldn't eat this or that," Metz said.

"And it's been helping me be more mobile and have less joint pain and inflammation, and run around onstage [Metz is currently in Broadway's "& Juliet"], and just do things that would have been much more difficult several pounds and inches ago," she explained of the GLP-1.

While Metz likes to be an "open book" and honest about her GLP-1 experience, she's well aware that not everyone will approve. "Listen, when it comes to me, everybody is judgy," she said.

She added, "It doesn't matter what I do. Before, people were like 'Why isn't she on a GLP-1?' and now they're going to know I'm on it and be like, 'Why is she on a GLP-1?'"

The actress says she learned to drown out her critics years ago. "It doesn't matter, because like I always say, they're not in my life. They're not in my doctor's notes. They're not in the hereditary issues my family has," she stated.

She continued, "My life is my life, and I have to do what's best for me, and that includes not listening to the comments and just talking to people who are positive and kind. I can't engage with something that doesn't make me feel good."

Metz, who is now partnering with Ro, a direct-to-patient digital health company that provides GLP-1s, offered further insight into why the treatment ultimately became her answer after years of struggling with her weight.

"My thinking was, how can I better myself and put myself first, which has always been the bane of my existence because I'm a people pleaser. But I know that my blood work is already better, and I'm headed in the right direction of getting ahead of things that needed getting ahead of," she said.

Even so, the actress insists she isn't fixated on the number on the scale. Instead, her attention has shifted toward broader lifestyle changes to pair with the GLP-1, including weight lifting and working alongside a personal trainer.
