Prince William Gives Candid Update on Princess Catherine and King Charles III's Health
Prince William has shared a rare, personal update on the health of both Princess Catherine and King Charles III, revealing how his family has been coping after a year marked by serious cancer diagnoses.
Prince William has opened up about the well-being of both his wife, Princess Catherine, and his father, King Charles III, after what he described as one of the most difficult years of his life.
The royal heir spoke during a conversation with actor Eugene Levy on Apple TV+'s "The Reluctant Traveler," offering a rare personal glimpse into how the family has coped following the cancer diagnoses of both the Princess of Wales, 43, and the King, 76, in 2024.
While giving Levy a tour of Windsor Castle, the "Schitt's Creek" star asked William directly, "This last year, your wife and father have been ill. How are things now first of all?"
The prince responded with reassuring news. "Yes, things are good," William said. "Everything is progressing in the right way, which is all good news."
He admitted, however, that 2024 had tested him in deeply personal ways. In fact, the royal could easily say that it was the hardest year that he's ever had to face.
"Trying to sort of balance protecting the children, Catherine, my father needs a bit of protection, but he's, you know, he's old enough to do that himself as well. But it's important my family feel protected and have the space to process a lot of the stuff that’s gone on last year, and that was tricky trying to do that and keep doing the job," Prince William shared.
Still, he emphasized resilience. "But you know, we all have challenges that come our way, and it's important to keep going," the Prince of Wales added.
The prince acknowledged that constant media attention often makes family life more difficult, stressing that while scrutiny comes with his royal role, safeguarding his wife, children, and father remains a top priority.
Levy also touched on Catherine's recent health milestone, asking about her remission following her announcement in January 2025. "Yes, she is. Yes," William confirmed, to which Levy responded, "Which is wonderful news." The Prince agreed.
Attention then turned to the couple's children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — and how they have coped with their mother's illness.
William explained that everyone in their family has their own coping mechanism, and that their three children were constantly learning and adapting.
"We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need. And we're a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us, and things that trouble us, but you never quite know the knock-on effects that it can have. And so, it's just important to be there for each other and to kind of reassure the children that everything is okay," he shared.
With both the Princess of Wales and the King focusing on recovery, William's reflections underscore the challenges, and the resilience, of Britain's most prominent family during a year of personal trials.
Amidst being on remission, Princess Catherine has returned to public duty. She's been hard at work with a series of appearances, both alone and with Prince William beside her.
