Philippine representative Ahtisa Manalo set the internet abuzz after sharing stunning new photos of herself in a vibrant blue bikini, which she showcased on the runway. For the swimsuit preliminaries, this year's 120 Miss Universe contestants were asked to select either a maillot or a two-piece suit in rainbow-inspired shades. Manalo opted for a two-piece swimsuit.

She opened her swimsuit presentation with her now-recognizable hip thrust, easing into a slow turn before swiftly snapping back into place. This is a trademark move she introduced during last year's national pageant.

Bench, the official swimwear partner of the 74th Miss Universe pageant, created the collection using the seven colors of the pride flag. This was a creative nod to the Miss Universe Organization's push for inclusivity and diversity and a visual expression of the pageant's spirit of progressive change and unity.

Manalo shared that she felt a strong sense of confidence after completing the Miss Universe preliminary competition in Thailand. Speaking to Dyan Castillejo of ABS-CBN News, she noted that her well-received pasarela performance during the swimsuit segment went exactly as she had envisioned.

"Overall, I think I did well," Manalo said. Her presence onstage was one of the night's highlights thanks to the stunning swimsuit that showcased both her elegance and competitive edge.

When she uploaded the photos to her social media accounts, supporters predicted that the Miss Universe crown was well within her reach. Her walk down the runway drew an outpouring of praise from fans.

Furthermore, the flowing golden floral appliqués traced the front and extended along the train. Manalo completed the look with a coordinated set of gold pearl jewelry, including earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet.

The evening piece was designed by Mak Tumang, who also crafted her "Festejada" national costume — another look that captured the admiration of her Filipino supporters.

The costume featured an intricately crafted upper portion made from handmade piña fabric, detailed with delicate abanico and palay embroidery patterns.

Her skirt was a work of art in itself, made from dyed fabric and embellished with an astounding 65,000 individually hand-cut, die-cut, and heat-pressed petals, creating a rich, textured effect.

The ensemble also highlighted traditional elements of the Traje de Mestiza, including a Camisa with elegant bell-shaped sleeves, a flowing saya (skirt), and a Pañuelo draped gracefully over her shoulders. All these combined to honor the classic, timeless silhouette of Filipino heritage.

The ensemble was completed with a Peineta embellished with tambourine and filigree-inspired gold details. These reflected the Philippines' rich tradition of jewelry-making and gold craftsmanship.

A Living Festival on the Miss Universe Stage

Many spectators became emotional during the National Costume segment because Manalo's presence evoked a deeply Filipino spirit. When she was told of their reactions, Manalo made sure to recognize designer Tumang's vision. "It's Mak's brainchild. We really wanted to showcase the Filipino creativity on stage," she said.

Her ensemble also paid homage to María Clara, the Noli Me Tangere figure long linked to the image of the ideal Filipina. It highlighted the evolution of the modern terno.

Tumang shared his own thoughts on the creation, calling the piece "a tapestry of artistry that reflects the joy and creativity of our people," adding that it was designed to honor the women who helped shape the country's history.

He added, "The Philippines is a nation of fiestas, where every town and barrio bursts with celebration — from bountiful harvests to the joyous Christmas season. This costume captures that spirit, turning history, tradition, and festivity into a single vision."

Tumang also noted, "With every step, she becomes the living festival of the Philippines — carrying the brilliance of a thousand lanterns, the warmth of Filipino hospitality, and the timeless grace of María Clara onto the Miss Universe stage."

Later, someone remarked that Manalo had fulfilled Tumang's dream of bringing such a national costume to life on the Miss Universe stage. The model responded to the praise with warmth. "Very happy to make people dreams come true. I hope mine comes true also," she said.

Bittersweet Ending for a Standout Star

The Miss Universe 2025 coronation took place at the Impact Challenger Hall in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Thailand, on Friday morning, November 21. The reigning titleholder, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, passed on the crown to her successor, Fátima Bosch of Mexico.

Manalo was determined to secure the Philippines' fifth title, following the victories of Catriona Gray, Pia Wurtzbach, Margie Moran, and Gloria Diaz. However, she ultimately finished as the third runner-up.

Although she didn't take home the crown, Manalo consistently radiated grace, confidence, and poise, leaving a lasting impression on both judges and fans.
