Isla Fisher on What Helped Her Get Through Her Divorce: ‘I’m So Grateful’

More than a decade of marriage came to a quiet end for Isla Fisher, but the actress says what carried her through wasn't time — it was the women around her.
Isla Fisher is opening up about what helped her navigate a trying phase of her life. The "Now You See Me" star split from her husband of 13 years, "The Dictator" star Sacha Baron Cohen, in 2024 and finalized her divorce in June 2025.

One year after the official end of her marriage, Fisher is reflecting on what gave her the strength to keep going — and it's far simpler and more profound than some might expect.
"I'm much stronger than I thought I was, and I would say that my friendships, my female friendships, have really been instrumental to me discovering or recovering that strength," Fisher told E! News. "I'm incredibly grateful."
Fisher made the comments at the Las Vegas premiere of her new film "Spa Weekend" on Friday, August 7.

Sharing the screen with a stacked lineup of leading ladies — including Anna Faris, Michelle Buteau and Leslie Mann — only deepened that sense of grounding as she settles into this new chapter.
"Honestly, it was so much fun," Fisher said. "I feel like from the time we did the table read, we all just got along. I've known Anna for years, and Leslie and I had made a movie together and Michelle, I was a fan from afar."
"But we all just had a natural chemistry and we're all girls' girls," she added. "So, there was a lot of support for each other and encouragement, and it was really special."

Fisher and Cohen first crossed paths at a party in Sydney, Australia, in 2001. Three years of dating led to an engagement in 2004, though the pair didn't marry until 2010 — by which point they were already parents to their first daughter, Olive.
The couple welcomed a second daughter, Elula, that same year, and completed their family in 2015 with the arrival of son Montgomery. They stayed together until their 2024 split, which they revealed in a joint statement on Instagram.

"After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down," they wrote at the time. "We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family's wish for privacy."
Ahead of the divorce being finalized, Fisher had spoken candidly about the pain the split had caused her.

"It's the most difficult thing that I've been through and I've learnt so much about myself in the process," the 50-year-old told The Sunday Times in February 2025. "I never imagined my family being separated, but we are committed and loving parents."
She went on to credit her circle of female friends for helping her stay afloat during the divorce. "The women in my life have held me," she reflected. "I'm sitting here today because of them."

"I've learnt so much about the power of female friendship and I've just learnt that I do have resilience, who I am outside of a partnership, and what my values are," she continued. "It's been this expansive learning curve."
Still, the breakup has doubled as a journey of self-discovery for the actress.
"I'm trying to remind myself of my new identity as somebody outside of a partnership and to stay as buoyant as possible," Fisher told Harper's Bazaar Australia in July 2025. "Any time there's change, it's hard to adapt. But hopefully I'm doing an OK job."
