Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Make Their Red Carpet Debut — and One Moment Has the Internet Divided
The "Firework" singer and the former prime minister made their red carpet debut at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival — but it was one PDA moment that got people talking.
Katy Perry is head over heels — and she's not hiding it.

The pop star and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made their official red carpet debut as a couple on Monday evening, June 8, stepping out together for the premiere of Perry's new concert movie, "The Lifetimes Tour — Live in Paris," at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival.

Perry turned heads in a floor-length ivory draped gown featuring a V-neckline and distinctive knotted rosette details at the bust and waist. Her dark hair was swept into a voluminous bouffant-inspired bun, with soft, loose tendrils framing her face. She completed the look with pointed white heels, diamond earrings, and a single matching ring.

Trudeau, meanwhile, cut a sharp figure in an all-black suit paired with a collarless white dress shirt — a sleek, modern combination he finished with black leather dress shoes, with his dark curly hair worn naturally.

Photos and clips of the couple's PDA-filled appearance quickly circulated online — and one video in particular drew a mixed reaction.

In the footage, Perry and Trudeau pose together as cameras flash on the carpet, and Trudeau's hand can be seen sliding down the singer's back before briefly caressing her rear and returning to her waist. Some viewers found the moment charming; others were not so impressed.

"Is it just me or anyone else also feels the butt-touching is a bit uncomfortable to watch ...😂," one person wrote. "It was gross.. the way her dress fell the way his hand was all splayed on her butt I couldn't stop laughing 😂," another agreed.
"Massaging her bum? Not really the time or place for that…" a third echoed, while a fourth sniped, "Gross and degrading to cup her [expletive]. This is not a relationship. It is a display."

"He just had to touch her in front of the camera 😅. Self controle is sexy! [sic]," one commenter remarked. "🤨Come on man, you have more class than that!" another exclaimed.
"I've never seen such a world figure touch a woman in that manner publicly before. What's this world coming to?" someone else added.
The moment stood in contrast to the warmth Perry expressed during a post-screening Q&A following the premiere. Reflecting on her sweeping 2025 Lifetimes Tour, she was openly sentimental about both the journey and the man beside her.
"Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world," she said. "I would say now at the end of 91 shows, I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life. I am very in love."

She went on to reveal that her November 2025 Paris dates — filmed for the concert movie — carried special personal significance.
"Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that," Perry added. "I'm a little bit like a rainbow kite — I fly super high. Sometimes I need to be anchored, so to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now."

Perry and Trudeau were first romantically linked in July 2025, when the two were spotted on a date in Montreal, Canada. They kept a low profile in the months that followed, though sources indicated things were becoming serious. Based on their red carpet entrance — and Perry's own words — it seems the reports weren't exaggerating.
