Angelina Jolie’s Daughter Vivienne Files to Drop ‘Pitt’ From Her Last Name

Vivienne Jolie-Pitt has taken legal steps to drop her father's last name, following in the footsteps of three of her siblings. The move adds fresh fuel to speculation about the family's rift with Brad Pitt.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's youngest daughter is officially petitioning to erase his last name from her identity. She now joins a growing list of siblings distancing themselves from their father on paper.

Vivienne, 18, has filed a petition to remove "Pitt" from her legal name, becoming the fourth of the former couple's six children to pursue such a change.

According to court documents obtained by People, the teenager filed with Los Angeles County Superior Court requesting that her name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

The reason listed for the request is simply "personal," and a hearing has been set for November 2. The filing reinforces what many had already suspected: Vivienne has been quietly stepping away from her father's name for some time.

Notably, she was credited as "Vivienne Jolie" in the Playbill for the 2024 Broadway production of "The Outsiders," a musical she helped produce alongside her mother. Vivienne, born in July 2008 alongside her twin brother Knox, is the youngest of the Jolie-Pitt siblings.

She isn't the only one making the switch. Older sister Zahara, 21, and brother Maddox, 24, have similar petitions underway, aiming to become Zahara Marley Jolie and Maddox Chivan Jolie.

Their sister Shiloh, 19, already completed the process in 2024, successfully dropping Pitt from her name that August. Zahara's hearing is scheduled for September 28, while Maddox's is set for September 14.

The pattern hasn't gone unnoticed by those close to Pitt. "It's sad to see someone repeatedly publicize their successful alienation of their children from the other parent," a source close to the actor previously said.

A second insider offered an even sharper assessment, saying. "This is what complete and total parental alienation looks like — it's awful, deliberate and unnecessary, only serving the interest of the parent feeling some perverse pleasure at excluding another caring parent from her children's lives."

But those in Jolie's corner tell a different story. Following Vivienne's filing, a source close to the actress pushed back on the narrative.

"If people knew the whole truth, they would have more sympathy for the children and respect them," the insider said. "The fact they aren't speaking ill or sharing things publicly only shows their decency."

Painting Jolie as someone seeking peace rather than conflict, the source continued, "Angie hasn't been fighting and isn't angry. She just wants everyone to heal."

That leaves two siblings who haven't followed suit: Knox, 18, and Pax. Neither has made any legal or public indication that they intend to drop the Pitt surname. In fact, Pax appears to maintain ties with his father's relatives.

Last month, reports surfaced that he still keeps in touch with that side of the family.

"Pax still has a relationship with his dad's side of the family and continues to spend time with them," a source revealed. "He recently joined his family as they went out to dinner and celebrated his cousin Sydney's engagement to Archimede Jerome."

The gathering reportedly included Brad's sister, Julie Pitt Neal, as well as his niece, Reagan Pitt, and other close relatives. Sydney had announced her engagement back in March on Instagram, captioning the post, "I said yes (duh)."

Still, despite staying connected to that branch of the family, Pax's bond with his father appears far more distant. A second source revealed that he "doesn't have much of a relationship with Brad."
