Julia Roberts Recreates Her Iconic Golden Globes Power Suit

Julia Roberts was seen out and about in Midtown New York on Wednesday evening, October 1. The acclaimed actress stepped out in style, wearing a double-breasted pantsuit that was strikingly similar to one of her most iconic looks.

The charcoal grey ensemble featured a tailored jacket and matching oversized wide-legged pants. The suit was paired with a light grey shirt and a navy tie accented by ornate gold pins. Black pointed-toe heels peeked out beneath the flowing hem, while her hair was swept back into a chic updo.

The look was a clear echo of Roberts' Golden Globes outfit in January 1990. At the time, the "Notting Hill" star wore an oversized grey suit with wide lapels and relaxed tailoring, styled with a crisp white shirt and a patterned purple tie.

That night, Roberts had been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1989 film, "Steel Magnolias," an award she ended up taking home. In January 2024, she told Vogue in a "Life in Looks" segment that the suit was one of her "all-time favorite outfits."

"I did my hair, my girlfriend did my makeup, and I got this suit at Armani in Beverly Hills," she recalled. Roberts explained that she had picked it out of the men's department, where the store’s tailor altered it to fit her measurements.

"I don't even know that people wore really fancy gowns to the Golden Globes then the way they do now, but I thought that I was very extra in this outfit," she said. "I could not have known that it was going to become this, like, statement outfit. I just thought I looked fabulous, and I still have that suit.'
