Late Queen’s Grandson Peter Phillips Becomes First in His Generation to Remarry

Peter Philips, Queen Elizabeth II's eldest grandchild, has remarried — making royal history as the first of his generation to wed a second time.

Peter Philips, grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has wed his longtime love, Harriet Sperling — just over a year after he got down on one knee.

The couple exchanged vows in a private ceremony on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at All Saints Church in Kemble, a picturesque village in Gloucestershire, England.

It is a second marriage for both. Peter was previously wed to Autumn Kelly from 2008 to 2021, and the former couple share two daughters: Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14.

Harriet, too, has walked down the aisle before — she was previously married to fitness instructor Antonio St. John Sperling, with whom she shares 13-year-old daughter Georgina.

The three girls are close in age, and all signs point to a genuine bond forming between them. Earlier this year, in April, the trio was spotted walking together at the royal family's Easter church service, coordinating in matching blue ensembles.

Peter and Harriet were also on hand for the occasion, complementing each other — and the girls — in coordinating shades of blue.

The couple are believed to have first crossed paths at a sporting event involving their children. Whispers of a romance began circulating in early 2024, and by May of that year, they had gone public — appearing hand-in-hand at the Badminton Horse Trials, where they cheered on Peter's sister, equestrian Zara Tindall.

From there, the pair steadily stepped into the spotlight together, making their official debut at the 2024 Royal Ascot, where they were seen enjoying champagne and sharing a lively exchange with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

A string of high-profile outings followed: Wimbledon, Prince William's charity polo matches, the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo, and the Bahrain Grand Prix. Their relationship went from strength to strength, and in August 2025, Peter took the next step — proposing to Harriet.

The wedding carries a notable distinction for the royal family. Peter is now the first of Queen Elizabeth's grandchildren — and indeed the first of his entire generation within the monarchy — to remarry.

Of the grandchildren, five — Prince William, Prince Harry, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and Zara — are currently married, while the two youngest, 22-year-old Lady Louise and 18-year-old James, Earl of Wessex, have yet to tie the knot.

Peter and Harriet will also be among the first in their royal circle to navigate blended family life with young children still at home. While some might point to King Charles and Queen Camilla as a precedent, it's worth noting that when the couple married in 2005, their respective children were already grown adults.

Peter's own experience with a blended family isn't entirely new territory. His mother, Princess Anne, remarried Sir Tim Laurence when Peter was around 15 and his sister Zara was about 11.

Tim didn't bring children of his own into the union, but the siblings did eventually gain more family through their father's side. Mark Phillips — Anne's first husband — married Sandy Pflueger and welcomed a daughter, Stephanie, in 1997.

Stephanie went on to serve as a bridesmaid at both Peter's first wedding to Autumn in 2008 and Zara's marriage to Mike Tindall in 2011.

Peter and Zara also have a half-sibling through an extramarital affair Mark had during his marriage to Princess Anne — though whether the half-siblings have ever actually met remains unknown.
