Inside the $50 Million Fantasy Bra Kylie Jenner Wore on the Victoria’s Secret Runway

It beat the previous record-holder by about $35 million and took 15 artisans to build. Here's a closer look at the design of the most dazzling piece to hit the Victoria’s Secret stage in years.

Kylie Jenner had her “pinch me” moment when she stepped out for the first time on the Victoria’s Secret runway, wearing the brand’s famous Fantasy Bra, no less.

The reality star and entrepreneur took to her Instagram to share images and a clip of her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debut. “STILL DREAMING,” she wrote in one of two posts, calling it “a moment i’ll never forget.”

The Fantasy Bra Jenner wore is Victoria’s Secret’s most expensive to date, worth an astounding $50 million. It features 4,410 natural diamonds surrounding a 75.54-carat radiant-cut Fancy Vivid yellow diamond. Weighing close to four pounds, the bra took 15 craftspeople more than 1,000 hours to make.

“A big idea for the show was fandomonium,” said Adam Selman, chief creative officer at Victoria’s Secret, noting that the Fantasy Bra was one of the things fans requested most after last year’s show. The last time the bra was featured on the show was in 2018. “It’s almost museum quality,” Selman added.

Jeweler Jacob Arabo of Jacob & Co. teamed up with the brand to design the bra, envisioning “a piece of high jewelry that could be worn as a bra. No fabric, only gold and diamonds.”

Seven cuts of diamonds were featured on the bra, including heart, pear, marquise, and Jacob & Co.’s own Angel-Cut. Four techniques were used to boost the diamonds’ brilliance. “For me, it had to be about the diamonds, the light, and the movement,” Arabo said. “We designed the piece so that it catches light with every step.”

An important consideration in making the bra was how to effectively combine jewelry with lingerie. “The biggest challenge was making sure the bra was comfortable to wear while keeping true to the design,” Arabo said. The team built a model using Jenner’s exact measurements, then kept adjusting it to fit her.

As for why “The Kardashians” star was chosen, Selman called her a “cultural powerhouse.” “Kylie really extends beyond fashion, beyond culture, beyond TV, beyond one singular thing,” he said.

The Fantasy Bra made its debut in 1996, when it was introduced in a magazine ad, worn by Claudia Schiffer and worth $1 million. In 1999, Heidi Klum wore the $10 million Millennium Bra, then Gisele Bündchen followed in 2000, wearing the $15 million Red Hot Fantasy Bra, which held the most expensive record until this year’s Fantasy Bra. In 2014, Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima each wore a Fantasy Bra, and before Jenner, Elsa Hosk wore one in 2018.

This year’s Fantasy Bra may be over-the-top expensive, but Selman says, “It really is for the fans.”
