Perez Hilton sent shockwaves across the internet last week after appearing to self-harm during a TikTok livestream, prompting alarmed viewers to contact emergency services, which were swiftly sent to his home in Florida.

According to 911 audio obtained by People, authorities spent hours working to de-escalate what was described as a "suicide attempt."

Hilton was hospitalized after Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office deputies managed to calm the situation, and he is now said to be in recovery.

Before the incident occurred, Hilton posted a video in which he wrote, "The devil is trying to bring me down! Old me would be floundering right now. Flailing! I KNOW God now. And love him! Knowing God and having faith are two different things, though."

"I may not understand everything now. But leaning into my faith. And asking for prayers," he added. Hilton did not go into detail about what he had been experiencing, but the veteran gossip columnist has endured a particularly turbulent stretch.

Between shifting life circumstances, harrowing medical emergencies, and mounting financial pressure, the past several months have taken a visible toll. Born Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., Hilton has been settling into life in Miami after relocating to his hometown back in June.

The move came after a three-year stint in Las Vegas, which followed an earlier chapter in Los Angeles. "Moving to Miami has not been easy," a source told Page Six. "It's where he was brought up and there's a lot of history there."

Hilton had reportedly been "really happy" with his life in Sin City, where he lived alongside his three children — Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8 — all born via surrogate.

"He and his family had a good life in Vegas, and the kids were settled," the insider explained. "I know the transition to a new place, even if it's a place that you have known your whole life, can be difficult and this move was no different for Mario."

"He's only been in Miami a few months, but I didn't get the impression he felt settled yet," the source continued. Beyond acclimating to his new environment, Hilton also weathered a pair of near-fatal medical emergencies that landed him in the hospital.

Back in March, Hilton took flu medication on an empty stomach, a decision that led to a grueling three-week hospital stay. He later told fans he'd been battling the flu for about a week before taking the medicine without eating.

That misstep, he explained, caused him to "develop an ulcer and then a perforation and then sepsis." "My stupidity landed me in the hospital for 21 days. It was the worst and best thing that's ever happened to me," he revealed in a YouTube video at the time.

Hilton said the frightening ordeal pushed him to prioritize time with his children and his mother, Teresita. "I'm going to have dinner with my kids and my mom every night from now on," he vowed.

Just a month later, Hilton faced another medical emergency, requiring surgery after developing a "massive" blood clot in April.

"His health struggles this year have been extreme. The sepsis honestly almost killed him," the source said. "I don't know if people realize just how traumatic and horrific that was for him, both physically, but also emotionally."

The insider added that the back-to-back hospitalizations amounted to a "massive awakening" for Hilton, noting, "It scared the hell out of him." Compounding matters, he was then confronted with steep medical bills despite carrying insurance.

"Mario has always worked extremely hard, he's one of the hardest working people I know and so suddenly being faced with these mounting financial pressures was a lot for him," the source said, pointing out that Hilton serves as the family's "breadwinner."

Despite the mounting challenges, Hilton reportedly remained focused on caring for his children, his sister Barbie, and his mother. "He just wants to provide a good life for everybody," the insider said. "I know that for that reason, the past few months have been really hard for him."

Still, a close friend maintained that Hilton showed no visible signs of struggling.

"He barely drinks, I can't actually remember the last time I saw him drinking any alcohol, and he definitely doesn't do drugs…" the friend said, adding, "It's not like this has been a downward spiral — it just hasn't."
