Lower temperatures are finally here, and so are layered, stylish outfits. As expected, each year brings its own seasonal trends, and this fall is no different. However, keeping up is not as complicated as it may sound.

In fact, some of the most popular items you'll likely spot this season are reminiscent of past fashion trends, just with a fresh twist. If you're looking for a wardrobe refresh or some guidance on what to shop for, look no further.

Here are five of this year's biggest style trends.

Structured Jackets

Structured, shaped jackets are officially making a comeback, which can make building an outfit that much easier. Think funnel necks, high collars, curved seams, cropped lengths and softly cinched waists.

Thanks to the way current designs are executed, these jackets still leave plenty of room to play around with layers. Take her look below, which centers on a cropped plaid jacket in warm browns and tans, with the rest of the outfit picking up those same tones.

Underneath, a cream blouse with a lace-trimmed, ruffled collar peeks out at the neckline, adding a soft, vintage touch against the structured, tweed-like fabric. Below the jacket, she keeps things tonal with high-waisted brown shorts and tall olive boots, with white socks just visible at the top.

Burgundy or Cherry Red Accents

Burgundy and cherry red are everywhere this season, often worked into outfits in small, subtle yet noticeable ways. Think a cherry red purse here, a burgundy lip combo there and a pair of burgundy stockings elsewhere. The shade can also serve as the building block of an entire outfit.

The point is, whether you go big or keep it small, this color has a way of elevating a look when done just right. Consider her sleek oxblood ensemble below, which pairs a long burgundy leather trench with a black turtleneck and a black midi skirt.

Matching burgundy leather gloves, a woven top-handle bag and pointed patent heels carry the rich shade throughout the outfit, while a black felt hat and dark sunglasses complete the look.

Ballet Sneakers

Ballet sneakers are another trending item currently making the rounds. Reminiscent of ballet shoes, they blend a slim, delicate silhouette with sneaker-level comfort, and they're enjoying quite the boom among younger shoppers.

Plus, their versatility makes them a good fit for just about any casual or smart-casual outfit. Style them with cuffed jeans, a midi skirt or tailored trousers for an easy, put-together finish.

Knitted Polos

A defining feature of fall fashion, knitted polos are a must-have. With the weather no longer warm enough for your summer wardrobe, yet nowhere near cold enough to break out your full knitwear repertoire, a thin knitted polo is the perfect piece for navigating this tricky middle ground.

Whether paired with loosely tailored trousers or your favorite denim, they bring a sense of softness and refinement to just about any look.

Silk Basics

They may be a fall staple, but silk-inspired button-downs, camis, relaxed trousers and simple dresses are now being treated as everyday wardrobe basics rather than pieces saved for special occasions.

Plus, like the items listed above, they're incredibly versatile and can be paired with just about anything, making them perfect for layering. Tuck a silk cami under a chunky cardigan or throw a structured jacket over a slip dress for an effortless transition from day to night.

With these five trends leading the way, refreshing your wardrobe this fall doesn't have to mean starting from scratch. Mix a structured jacket with a silk cami, add a pop of burgundy to your go-to denim, or slip on a pair of ballet sneakers for an instant update.

However you choose to style them, these pieces make it easy to stay cozy, polished and on-trend all season long.
