NBC's Yamiche Alcindor, Who Once Struggled with Infertility, Reveals She's Pregnant with Baby No. 2 — Years After IVF Journey
The White House correspondent recently shared the news, revealing that she learned she became pregnant naturally after conceiving her first child through in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Yamiche Alcindor is going to be a mom — again! The NBC News White House anchor is expecting her second child with her husband, Nate. The couple, who have been married since 2018, are already parents to their two-year-old son, Yrie.
Yamiche shared that this pregnancy is particularly significant because she was able to conceive naturally after undergoing multiple rounds of IVF with her first child. The journalist, who had long desired motherhood, had struggled with infertility for "several years."
Earlier this year, she and her husband decided they wanted to try for another baby and began doing preliminary testing to undergo another round of IVF. But before embarking on the arduous journey yet again, they decided to go on vacation to Jamaica.
"Well, on the morning of our flight to Jamaica, I was feeling really exhausted and nauseous and decided to take a pregnancy test," Yamiche recalled. "I screamed — literally screamed — when the words 'pregnant' popped up on the screen of the test."
Yamiche added that she had "never been pregnant naturally" before then and she never imagined it would happen. Following the vacation, she and Nate visited the IVF clinic, thinking she had only been four to six weeks pregnant.
However, they were astonished to find out she was already nearly three months along. "My entire first trimester had gone by without me noticing!" Yamiche said. "We were beyond shocked and also overjoyed."
She admitted she was hesitant to share her story as someone who struggled for years with infertility, but she is hopeful that it will touch someone going through a similar ordeal and reinforce their faith in a positive outcome.
